BIM 360 and Navisworks models in AutoCAD – you can now snap to!

When you think back to the BIM 360 and Navisworks underlay in AutoCAD 2016 post in the middle of April (8 whole days ago), you’ll remember I was quite excited. It represents a change in dynamics in the way a project is put together. Designers and engineers are more closely part of the coordination process allowing for Clash Avoidance, even before you ever get to Clash Detection on the BIM/VDC Coordinators side. With Autodesk Application Manager, if you have AutoCAD 2016 (or one of our other vertical products), you’ll see a notification for Coordination Model Osnap support. You can install this directly from the application manager and keep up to date. 1 For those familiar with AutoCAD, this means you can now snap to objects in the BIM 360 Glue or Navisworks model, from the previous day as opposed to weeks or months old, giving you more confidence that what you are designing is correctly placed and doesn’t conflict with anything else. 2 This is one of the great things about how our development teams now use agile methodology to develop software. We can get more frequent updates to you, as users of the software. Agile is an interesting working methodology that I’ve seen has inspired others with coordination. Making gradual improvements and adding new items without disturbing what is already there, gives you quicker feedback loops and allows you to focus on quality.
